Leonor Adriana Barile Fabris assumes the post of editor of Reumatología Clínica beginning November 2011 and for a period of 2 years, succeeding Dr. Jordi Gratacós Masmitjà.

Dr. Barile studied Medicine at the Escuela Mexicana de Medicina of the Universidad la Salle from 1977 to 1982, and Rheumatology at the Hospital de Especialidades “Antonio Fraga” of the Centro Médico la Raza, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social from 1984 to 1987, year in which she was certified by the Consejo Mexicano de Reumatología, and since then has been recertified every 5 years.

She completed the Advanced Doctorate in Health Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México from 1998 to 2001, and obtained the degree of Doctor in Sciences as a candidate in 2003.

She has worked as an attending physician at the Department of Rheumatology of the Hospital de Especialidades at the Centro Médico La Raza, and then as a researcher at the Unidad de Investigación Médica en Epidemiología Clínica at the Hospital de Especialidades “Bernardo Sepúlveda” of the Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social and as Director of Medical Education and Research of the same hospital. She is currently head of the department of Rheumatology at that institution.

In the area of teaching, Dr. Barile has been a graduate professor of Rheumatology at the School of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Professor of the Masters on Medical Sciences of the same university and is currently Chair of the Specialization Course in Rheumatology at the Postgraduate Studies Division as well as a member of the Academic Subcommittee of the specialty.

In the field of Rheumatology, Dr. Barile has been president of the Mexican College of Rheumatology (2006–2007) and the Mexican Board of Rheumatology (2005–2006) as well as invited professor of International Societies of the specialty, among them Argentina, Chile, Cuba and Spain.

She is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores since 1996, and has authored several research papers published in national and international journals. In this sense, her main interest has centered in the treatment of severe manifestations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, especially neurologic manifestations and the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis, mainly with biological agents.

She has received the prize for scientific productivity of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social in 5 different occasions and is a member of the Latin American study groups for systemic lupus erythematosus and Rheumatoid Arthritis (GLADEL and GLADAR).

She has been a reviewer for many journals, among which we can find Lupus, Annals of Rheumatic Diseases and the Journal of Rheumatology and is currently an evaluator for the McMaster online Rating System.

She is currently a member of the scientific committees of Excellence in Rheumatology and Lupus Meeting 2013.

Dr. Barile started her editorial activity as an associate editor of the Revista Mexicana de Reumatología, and has been a part of the work team of Reumatología Clínica since its inception, being co-editor since November 2009 until presently, now assuming the post of editor in chief.
